Smoky Goat is a blended Scotch whisky produced by the Whisky Union, a division of Diageo specializing in experimental whisky. Whisky Union proclaim themselves as creative collective of whisky makers, visionaries and hedonists in pursuit of unconventional blends. Smoky Goat named after the wild goats native to Scotland is a creation of Craig Wallace, ‘a blend of three styles – sweet grain, body and character of a Highlander and smoke for which the Islay is famed for.’ The whisky is made in small batches with three cask types: refill, rejuvenated and first fill bourbon. Smoky Goat was awarded the Best Whisky Innovation 2015 and a gold medal at the 2016 San Francisco World Spirit Competition.
Nose: smoky and sweet, vanilla, caramel, butterscotch, juicy grapes, hints of hay and campfire ashes.
Palate: again smoky and sweet, vanilla, caramel, cotton candy, pears, pepper and aniseed, peat smoke and charred oak.
Finish: not too long, peat smoke, vanilla, caramel, honeydew melon and oak.
