The Jefferson’s Reserve brand was introduced in 1998 by McLain & Kyne Distillery owned by Chester and Trey Zoeller. The Zoellers sourced spirits from American and Canadian distilleries to create, as they used to say “very small batch whiskies”. Jefferson’s Reserve was a tremendous success, the Zoellers planned to build own distillery, yet in 2005 they sold their business to Castle Brands Inc. The recent edition to the Jefferson’s line (summer 2015) was Groth Reserve Cask Finish. The bourbon originally aged in new charred American oak barrels was transferred to French oak casks, which previously held Groth Cabernet Sauvignon for additional nine months. (Groth Winery in a renowned producer located in Napa Valley, famous for its Cabernet Sauvignon).
