Millstone whisky comes from Zuidam Distillers, Dutch company founded in 1975 by Fred van Zuidam. The distillery uses traditional windmills to mill the grains what causes almost no increase in the temperature of the grain and thus helps preserve the aromas. Millstone Dutch Five Grains is distilled from the family developed recipe containing rye, wheat, corn, spelt and malted barley (the proportion of the grains is not revealed). The bottle presented here was part of the batch distilled on August 8, 2011, aged in new American oak barrels and bottled at 46% abv on September 4, 2014.
Nose: grainy, porridge, rye bread, vanilla, blood oranges, peaches, hints of cinnamon and aniseed.
Palate: gently spicy, cinnamon, nutmeg, hint of cloves, toffee, vanilla, apples, bitter orange marmalade and hint of licorice.
Finish: medium long, spicy, cinnamon, cloves, rye bread and touch of vanilla.
