St. George’s Distillery was founded by father and son, James and Andrew Nelstrop. The premises were officially opened by Prince Charles in March 2007, but distillation started on December 12, 2006 with Iain Henderson of Laphroaig and Edradour fame in charge (later replaced by David Fitt). The distillery releases are called ‘chapters’ with the first four chapters being reserved for Single Malt Spirit ‘Not Yet Whisky!’ Chapter 14 presented here comprises whisky distilled from un-peated malt in September 2009 and aged in ex-bourbon barrels nos. 057, 059, 487 and 488. Bottled at the usual 46% abv, of natural color and without chill-filtration on July 2015.
Nose: vanilla, almond croissants, raisins, marzipan, lychees, brown sugar, tangerines, peaches and hints of dried flower petals.
Palate: sweet and fruity, vanilla, crème brûlée, baked apples, candied orange peel, banana bread and cappuccino.
Finish: pretty long, with notes of vanilla, poached fruit, cappuccino and oak.
