The Weutz Distillery located in south Styria (Austria) is certainly no stranger to experimenting. Since 2004 it produced 14 different malt whiskies, some of them in very creative way – Green Panther, in which 5% of pumpkin seeds are added to the mash or Weutz Origin Spelt distilled from mash made of 51% organic spelt and 49% of malted barley. Hot Stone is another unorthodox single malt whisky. Before the fermentation glowing volcanic stones are inserted into barley mash. The volcanic, basalt stones are heated to about 1000ºC and ensure caramelization of sugar. The whisky was aged in medium toasted Limousin oak barrels and carries no age statement.
