Amrut is a family owned distillery based in Bangalore, south India. It produces about 50 million bottles of spirits annually, of which 1.4 million bottles is whisky. The company started producing whisky in the 1980s but single malt has not been introduced until 2004. Amrut distills from unpeated barley sourced from the north of the country and from peated malt imported from Scotland. Amrut Peated Single Malt is part of the distillery core range. The whisky is distilled from Scottish barley malted to specification of 20-23 ppm phenols and aged in American oak barrels for about three years. Hot and humid conditions accelerate maturation process but also increase angel’s share up to 14%.
