Pittyvaich Distillery was established in 1974 by Arthur Bell & Sons and started distilling the following year. Pittyvaich shared site and water source with Dufftown Distillery. The distilleries worked in conjunction with each other and both whiskies were major components of Bell’s blends. The Pittyvaich project was short-lived, the distillery mothballed in 1993, never reopened and 10 years later its buildings were razed to the ground. In 2015 Diageo included 25 years old expression into annual Special Releases range. The whisky distilled in 1989 was aged in refill American oak hogsheads and first fill bourbon barrels and bottled at natural strength of 49.9% abv. Only 5922 individually numbered bottles were produced.
