Amrut Distilleries Ltd. was founded in 1948 by Shri J.N. Radhakrishna Jagdale to supply alcoholic beverages for the Indian Ministry of Defense. The company main source of income is vodka, gin, brandy and rum trade with single malt whisky being responsible roughly for 5% of the revenue. Amrut single malt was introduced in 2004 in Scotland, paradoxically it took long six years to launch the brand in India. Amrut Indian Single Malt is the company flagship and excellent introduction to the brand portfolio. The whisky is distilled from barley grown at foothills of Himalayas and malted in Jaipur and Delhi and bottled without chill-filtration at 46% abv.
Nose: malty, breakfast cereals, vanilla, honey, toffee, licorice, bananas, peaches, apple pie sprinkled with cinnamon and oak.
Palate: malted barley, caramel, vanilla, bananas, oranges, apricots, licorice, white pepper, dash of cinnamon and oak.
Finish: medium long, with notes of vanilla, toffee, oak and dash of pepper.
