Chichibu is a relatively small whisky distillery founded by Ichiro Akuto, grandson of Hanuy distillery’s founder. Similar to Hanyu, it is situated in Saitama Prefecture, just north-west of Tokyo. The distillery was founded in 2008. The whiskies marketed under Ichiro’s Malt brand name are composed of their own spirits, as well as those made in other distilleries, not necessarily from Japan. A relatively small capacity plant is in the process of constant expansion. The whisky maturing in Chichibu warehouses is subjected to the annual drastic changes in temperature, which is supposed to speed up the maturation process.
