Bottle No. 267
Cask No. 271
Many whisky aficionados believe that Rosebank Distillery produced the best single malt whisky in Lowlands in the 20th Century. The distillery was founded in 1840 and in the late 19th Century enjoyed such popularity that the owners had to sell their whisky by allocation and did not hesitate to charge their customers warehouse rent. Sadly Rosebank Distillery was mothballed in 1993 and never reopened. Since 2002 the site is owned by British Waterways and most of the buildings have been turned into pubs and offices. The Mackillop’s Choice bottling comes from a single sherry cask No. 271 filled in January 1991 and bottled in April 2013 at natural strength of 55.2% abv.
Nose: rich with strong sherry influence, cinnamon, cloves, orange zest, raisins, plums, notes of geranium and fresh herbs.
Palate: pretty spicy, ground pepper, allspice, aniseed, cloves, sweetened lime juice, raisins, dried apples and a touch of oak.
Finish: fairly long, cloves, sherried oak and traces of dried fruit.
