Talisker Distillery takes its name from a small farm near the village of Carbost on the Isle of Skye. It was founded in 1830 and until 1928 employed triple distillation process, custom to Lowland distilleries. Currently it is owned by Diageo and produces 2.7 million liters of spirit per annum. Talisker 1977 Vintage, the oldest bottling offered by the distillery so far, was part of Diageo Special Releases in 2012. The whisky was matured for 35 years in refill American and European oak casks and bottled at natural strength of 54.6% abv. Only 3090 bottles were produced and they are cherished by collectors.
Nose: incredibly complex, fruity, citrusy and at the same time briny and smoky, vanilla, white chocolate, quince jelly, almonds, hay, hints of leather and pepper.
Palate: perfectly balanced, peaty, medicinal and fruity, honeydew melon, passion fruit, oranges, pepper, ginger, hints of aniseed, chocolate and touch of licorice.
Finish: very long and intense, with all the components from the palate in perfect harmony.
