The Suntory Company, founded in 1899 in Osaka by Torii Shinjiro, initially sold imported wines. In 1923 construction of the very first Japanese whisky distillery, Yamazaki, commenced. For many years, the company was called Kotobukiya, and was renamed Suntory only in 1963. At present Suntory Holdings owns numerous brands of spirits, beers and soft drinks. As far as the Japanese whisky goes, the major brands belonging to Suntory, or rather its subsidiary, Beam Suntory, include Yamazaki, Hakushu and Hibiki.
Suntory Special Reserve is a blended malt whisky, composed from malt spirits produced at the distilleries belonging to the company.
Nose: Sweet, with some oakiness, apples, vanilla, coconuts and malt.
Palate: Powerful and strong, yet creamy and oily, with apples, apricots, vanilla, butter cookies and some oakiness.
Finish: Medium length, creamy and smooth.
