In 2011 Tamdhu Distillery, mothballed two years earlier by its owners, The Edrington Group, got new lease of life. Edrington has been fully focused on Macallan and Highland Park malts and Famous Grouse brand and Tamdhu operation was definitely not their priority. Ian Macleod Distillers put a winning bid and resumed production the following year. In 2015 the Batch Strength expression was introduced, as a supplement to the core 10 years old. The whisky was aged exclusively in ex-sherry casks and according to the distillery statement “remains true to the Victorian optimism of the brand’s founders, upholding their passion to create only the finest single malt”.
