Scapa Distillery was founded in 1885 and over time welcomed many owners. In 1994 the distillery was mothballed in ruinous state and many believed that its history is coming to an end. Fortunately that was not the case and major refurbishment took place in two stages, 2004 and 2005. Now Scapa works at full capacity and produces about 1.3 million liters of spirit per annum. The 16 years old expression was introduced in 2008 and caught a lot of attention. Many believe that is the best official bottling of Scapa ever released. Here we have a set containing a bottle of 16 years old Scapa and six whisky stones – rocks that retain heat or cold. After being in a freezer for few hours they are perfect to put them in a glass for bringing the temperature down without diluting the whisky.
Nose: clean, sweet and fruity, heather honey, sweet cereals, toffee, apricots, oranges, apples, nougat, hints of hay and a whiff of sea breeze.
Palate: pretty sweet, honey, caramel, vanilla custard, baked apples, oranges, breakfast cereals, dash of salt and very subtle oaky notes.
Finish: medium long, fruity and salty with notes of caramel and hint of hay.
